Malthouse Holiday Cottage, Gower
Gower Getaways are very excited to have this adorable, pet-friendly cottage as part of our portfolio. It is packed full of charming features and quirky details. Here you will feel as if you had been transported into an Enid Blyton storybook! Its location is also good - it's on the road above the wooded, National Trust managed Bishopston Valley. Footpaths follow this secluded valley, with its incredible limestone geology, down to Pwll Du Bay, an isolated and idyllic beach, and one of Gower's most beautiful.
The house is a two minute walk from the Joiners and the Valley, two country pubs which sit opposite each other and both serve food. There is also a short walk to the Gower Hotel for more formal dining, cream teas and cocktails. Also a few minutes walk away is a well-stocked local Co-op. All the beaches of Gower are easily reached by car or on foot on the coastal path if you are a walker. The busy village of Mumbles with its galleries, boutiques and restaurants, is less than 10 minutes drive away.
About this property:
The Malthouse, Bishopston, is a quirky cottage, lovingly renovated and restored to reflect its origins as an 18th century malt house. We adore its traditional, vintage decor and the way that it has been designed to feel spacious and airy whilst still retaining its Welsh cottage charm.
The sitting room is cosy with exposed beams and quarry tiles and a comfy sofa next to the wood burning stove. Together with underfloor heating in the kitchen and bathroom, the heating is simple with a wood-burning stove that provides heating for the whole house, with logs being provided for your stay. There is a a drop-leaf dining table which can be opened out for more formal dining or moved for board games by the fire, a games and crafts cupboard and a digital TV with DVD.
Off the sitting room is a cute kitchen divided into two by an arched doorway through an incredibly thick stone wall. The vintage-style kitchen is wood-clad and pretty with a Belfast sink, dishwasher and fridge in one half and the cooker and handmade dresser in the other. There is a small breakfast table.
The back door leads out to a timber-framed sun porch and small enclosed private garden, with patio and flower borders. The sun porch extends to form a covered bike store/drying area and further secure storage is available on request. Upstairs there is a galleried bedroom. This master bedroom is a wonderful place to escape after a hard day on the beach, with its double height ceiling and exposed beams. The galleried loft area is described by the owners as a 'reading loft', but it also has a day bed which can be made up for you as a 3ft single bed, and beneath it is stored a comfortable trundle bed which can be used for a second child if you wish.
Access is through the master bedroom and so these extra beds would not suit everyone and due to the open stairs and tiled floors, please be aware that the house is not suitable for very young children, very tall people or people with limited mobility. A playpen is available on request. The pretty bathroom has many sweet design features and a chic rustic feel. There is a walk in shower, wash hand basin and W.C.
Parking for the cottage is a few yards away on the corner of Church street, where there is nearly always ample room.
