The village of Mumbles is known as the gateway to Gower. What was a fishing village with a Norman Castle is now  a vibrant centre with restaurants, cafes, bars and boutique shops. A good base for your holiday with all these amenities, beaches within easy walking distance and the isolated beaches of the Gower a short distance away. Escape to Rhossili beach in twenty minutes, and return to Mumbles for a wonderful evening out without worrying about having to drive.

On offer is also an amusement arcade, skating rink, parks with children's play areas, Mumbles Pier and even a friday night film show in the local hall. During the summer holidays there is also children’s activities in the park provided free of charge by the local authority. Mumbles hosts numerous festivals and events. The Mumbles Jazz festival attracts musicians from around the world and the Navy Days Festival gets bigger every year. The Raft Race is a big event with local community groups, businesses and pubs getting together to race across the bay in ingenious and comical home made rafts. There are too many art fairs and craft markets to mention as well as a monthly farmers market, do not miss the famed lamb burgers cooked on a market stall and served with a mint dressing and a big mushroom in a bun, delicious.

If you want a change of scene there is the land train which connects Mumbles to the Blackpill Lido with a lovely cafe overlooking  the paddling and play areas for the children. Futher around the Bay is Swansea itself for shopping as well as museums, art galleries, Wales' premier waterpark the LC and the historic Maritime Quarter.

The beaches closest to Mumbles are Limeslade and Bracelet Bay. The former has ample parking, a cafe and Italian restaurant with spectacular views over the bay. The latter an old fashioned style ice cream parlor and cafe.

Further along the cliff path are Rotherslade and Langland which are the most popular beaches in the area. There is parking and a number of child friendly cafes. The Langland Brasserie is located next the beach and is open  all day for lunch, afternoon tea and evening meals in a truly fantastic setting.

Leave your cares behind and your car if you wish and experience the laid back approach to life in Mumbles where everyone wears shorts from March to October.

We had a fabulous first holiday on the Gower with your beautiful house as a base. The area is quiet and relaxing. lIght and spacious with all the appliances required to keephouse work at a minimum. Mumbles is a ;lovely little seaside town with some great places to eat. We ahd great brunches from the Front Room, The Kitchen Table and gorgeous tapas from Chai, also delicious ice cream from Joe's. We spent time at Rhossili, Caswell... al different but my favourite was seeing seals at Worm's Head.
We had a lovely week here at Overland Rd despite the weather being quite wet and windy! The house is really well eqipped , very nicely furnished and spacious. Our recommendations include: The mermaid - good food and friendly staff, Joe's Ice cream - taste it and see! The Mad Hatter - very good value food! Ty Junction - great food! Fish & chips from Johnnie's Rhossili & Worm's Head - a must! The walk from the house down to Rotherslade, across the beach to Langland and across the corner to Caswell. Stop off in Surfside Cafe for a mug of tea and a welsh cake! Oxwich Bay - another 'must see' A walk to the end of Mumbles Pier and a quick go on the 2p falls in the amusement arcade A very magical spot in the world! Thank you - Diolch Yn Fawr!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful relaxing home. It is a true getaway and a peaceful sanctuary in which we relaxed straight away. Your thoughtfulness in providing us with so much is really appreciated and it helped make our stay so comfortable. Local recommendations after this our 7th visit to the Gower/Mumbles in the last 10 years include: Caswell, Langland, Port Eynon, and Oxwich beaches - ALL FAB! Gower Cottage Brownies from Kate in Reynoldston, LC2 great for a family swim and surfing lessons, Joe's Ice cream, The Mad Hatter's Cafe on Newton Rd. Thank you again it was a wonderful boost to the batteries!
This is our first trip to the Gower and Mumbles and have really enjoyed it. We really hope to come back. The beaches are beautiful. We absolutely love Rhossili and have been there for 3 days in various conditions ! But it is such a gorgeous place it is enjoyable in any weather and the Bayhouse Cafe does a nice cuppa and has a lovely view of the Beach. This is a definite must. Our boys enjoyed skateboarding along the front in Mumbles. The Cafe called Ty in the back roads of Mumbles behind Tesco is lush! Very nice cappucino! If you like olives, check out olives and oils in Mumbles...amazing! The cinema in Swansea was great on a very rainy day. Like other visitors we also tried fish and chips from Johnnie's, very reasonable and very nice. We have visited Oxwich Bay and Port Eynon today, another two great beaches. Thank you for letting us stay in your lovely house, so spacious, light and attractively furnished. Everything we needed was provided. The deck area was a lovely place to sit.Your home made the perfect place to relax and explore the area. We are very grateful.
